HOUSE OF V
Born in Hong Kong with an international upbringing, Cynthia Mak was first exposed to arts through her studies in graphics design. She then attended Central Saint Martins
College of Arts and Design (CSM) to further pursue her interests.
Beginning afresh in a new field, she devoted herself in learning about fashion and constructing garments. With her enthusiasm and hard work, she graduated from CSM with Distinction. Her impressive final-year collection also garnered her the praise by
Vogue Italy as one of the "New Talents" to watch out for.
After working in Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Preen by Thornton and Roksanda Illincic, she returned to her hometown to work in large scale luxury fashion retailers, but her passion remained in the field of fashion design and subsequently established her own designer label in 2014 which was awarded the Elle Style Award 2017, Vogue Talents for Asia and also listed on the HK Tatler Generation T 2017. For SS19, she is taking up a new challenge of rebranding HOUSE OF V by injecting more colours and energy into the brand.
Inspired by architecture and guided by the most basic unit in design – lines,
HOUSE OF V strives to create elegant and minimalistic fashion. Every detail in
the design pieces is carefully crafted and curated to achieve sartorial harmony.
The “V” of HOUSE OF V represents the designer’s philosophy in using simple
lines to create subtle depth. This brand symbol “V” also embodies visual languages, echoing with the universality of the brand’s designs.
